6. Our services
Our services are intended to counter bicycle theft. In performing our services, we assist law enforcement agencies when investigating bicycle theft. When deemed necessary, we may disclose your information to law enforcement to aid in their investigation.
You may access information on, or received information through, our website which enables you to identify a stolen bicycle and/or identify the person who stole it, or a person or company engaged in the sale of a stolen bicycle. You are to report such information to law enforcement and allow law enforcement to take appropriate action. You must not seek to recover the stolen bicycle yourself or confront the person you believe stole it, or is selling it. In all cases, you should seek the immediate advice of the appropriate law enforcement agency in your particular state or territory.
7. Bike Registration Transfer
The Bike Registration Transfer facility is an optional facility for registered members to use. We do not warrant the authenticity any of the information and photographs transferred and nor is it compulsory for a registered user to transfer registration upon sale or at any other time.
Registered public and bike shop / commercial users may optionally transfer a bike’s registered information and photographs to another registered member of Bike Vault. If the transferee is not already a registered member of Bike Vault, they will first need to create an account to accept the transfer.
To initiate the transfer, the transferor requires the transferees’ email address. The transferor is responsible for ensuring they obtain the correct email address of the transferee and are responsible for the information and photographs that they transfer. We recommend prior to transferring registration that the transferor edits and update the bike’s details (when required) and that they remove the following by editing their registration form before actioning the transfer:
When transferring the registration as a result of a sale, we recommend that transferor does not commence the transfer until the sale is complete and the payment of the bike has been settled.
When a public member transfers a bike registration, the date of transfer, member name and ID is displayed in the Transfer History section of the Log Book. If the registration is further transferred the log book will continue to update the transfer history. Upon further transfer, all information except the recorded name of the original public transferor is displayed in the new transferees’ log book.
When a bike shop / commercial member transfers a bike registration the bike shop name, suburb, state/territory, phone number and member ID is displayed in the Transfer History section of the log book. This information remains viewable in the logbook for all future transfers.
8. Sale Report
The Registration Sale Report displays date stamped bike and registration information and photographs as well sale declaration questions and links (optional) to online sites, where the bike is advertised for sale. The core intent of the Sale Report is to provide information for purchasers to conduct thorough due diligence when buying a used bike or a new bike from an unknown seller. We do not warrant the authenticity of any information or photographs in the Sale Report, including the bona fides and identity of the seller and the current and any prior registered owner. The information in the Sale Report should only be used as an aid when conducting thorough due diligence. Buyer beware at all times, we do not recommend purchasing a bike online without a thorough physical inspection and checks to make sure the bike is not stolen. As a FREE service we do not run cross-checks of registered and stolen bikes on our website.
